Summertime Sanity #3 - Wacky Fun Day & Prayers

I tell you....I have gone bloggy wild. Consecutive day #3 of Summertime Sanity. Well here's why.

First of all, our last day of school is actually today. We have Field day this morning and then Kindergarten Graduation tomorrow night. Sniff. Someone will have to peel me off of the floor, I'm sure. I will be a blubbering mess.

Secondly, tomorrow the family and I are going to be putting into action Children's Day which I haven't written about yet. So I thought I'd go ahead a explain that.

And most importantly, I feel as if I am all works at the moment. I have spent most all of my alone/quiet time in the mornings planning out and praying over summer - I miss the WORD! So after I post, I am going to give a bit of scripture to pray over our children this summer (and always).

Summertime Sanity #3

Tomorrow will be the Crenshaw Summer Kick-off! Brent is off for the day and we are heading out for our first of many to come - Wacky Fun Days!! What is that?

In the book, Sanity in the Summertime, Dillow encourages families to set time apart for a Children's Day. She writes, "In June we initiated Children's Day. Our goal: to do one special thing with the children each week. Wednesday was the day we set aside when mother and children would plan together how they would spend their day."

So we called a family meeting and explained Children's Day to the boys. They were ecstatic!! Brent got a sheet of paper and we all took turns coming up with fun things we'd each like to do.
I was amazed. For the most part the ideas they had were all simple and inexpensive. Even better.

Here's our list...

• picnic
• zoo
• pool
• camping
• eat Popsicles
• go visit Mimi and Pops
• go visit cousins
• splash pad
• fishing
• See Toy Story 3
• catch fireflies
• ride bikes
• ride go-carts
• play minute 2 win it
• craft day
• make homemade ice cream
• see a play
• family movie night at the drive-in
• game night
• hiking

Doesn't that sound dreamy!! So fun! After we came up with our list, we re-named our day. We now call it Wacky Fun Day, derived from Dr. Seuss's book, Wacky Wednesday -hilarious if you've never read it.

I am excited, too, because so many of these things can be combined into one day. If its raining out our Wacky Fun Day we could easily stay home and have a craft morning, Popsicles for an after lunch treat and game night after dinner.

For older children, Dillow suggests involving them in the preparation. Grant may not be as excited about going to the Splash Pad as Luke or Ethan, so he will become my "special helper" that day. I will need all his creativity and help making this day extra fun for his little brothers ;) He totally gets into that.

Working mommies and single parents! You too! She writes, " rather than a children's day, you may have to set your sights on a regular Children's Hour. Or perhaps you can arrange your work schedule to take off three days this summer and have a super-special Children's Day. Maybe have a Children's Morning on a Saturday. The issue is not how much time you have, but how you are using the minutes and moments you day have."

So there you have it. The book suggests other little things to get prepared for Wacky Fun Day. I won't go into all of that today. I will take pictures and include all those little details later.

31 Prayers for our kiddos.

So to quench my thirst for the Word this morning, I am going to type out 31 Prayers for Our kiddos. A sweet friend gave me this list the other day and I couldn't help but share. I am looking forward to typing each word. Mmm.

1) Salvation: "Lord, let salvation spring up within my children, that they may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory." (Is. 45:8. 2 Tim 2:10)

2) Growth in Grace: "I pray that my children may grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." (2 Peter 3:18)

3) Love: "Grant that my children may learn to live a life of love, through the Spirit who dwells in them." (Gal 5:25, Eph 5:2)

4) Honesty and integrity: "May integrity and honesty be their virtue and their protection." (Psalm 25:21)

5) Self-control: "Father, help my children not be like many others around them, but let them be alert and self controlled in all they do." (1 Thess 5:6)

6) Love for God's Word: "May my children grow to find Your Word more precious than pure gold and sweeter than honey." (Ps 19:10)

7) Justice: "God, help my children love justice as You do and act justly in all they do." (Ps 11:7, Mic. 6:8)

8) Mercy: "May my children always be merciful, just as You are merciful." (Luke 6:36)

9) Respect for self, others and authority: "Father, grant that my children would show proper respect for everything and everyone, as your Word commands." (1 Peter 2:17)

10) Biblical self-esteem: "Help my children develop a strong self esteem that is deeply rooted in the fact that they are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus." (Eph 2:10)

11) Faithfulness: "Let love and faithfulness never leave my children, but bind these two virtues around their necks and write them on the tablet of their hearts." (Proverbs 3:3)

12) Courage: "May my children always be strong and courageous in their character and in their actions." (Dt. 31:6)

13) Purity: "Create in them a pure heart, O God, and let that purity of heart be shown in their actions." (Psalm 51:10)
