When I was a little girl, I noticed my mom talked to herself some. She would sing to herself, too. Every now and again she would notice me watching her. She would quickly turn her talking into a tune and smile at me. As though I didn't see.
I always wondered what she was saying.
Fast forward thirty years. A month ago, I sat on my couch across from my mentor, Debbie. Journal and pen in hand, I tried to write down as much as I could. Soaking up her wisdom and His Truth.
If I've said it once, I'll say it again...Woman knows the Word.
And it comes so easily for her. Rolling off her tongue. She doesn't search for it. His Word sits waiting to be spoken.
She knows her Covenant. She knows what He says about her. She knows the promises He makes time and again in Scripture.
She handles the Word like a solider. She does not walk in defeat or fear. She is ready when the day of battle comes.
My subconscious was working as I listened. Thinking on its own.
Oh, how I long to be like that when I grow up. His Word to roll so smoothly from my lips. His Promises to be on the forefront of my mind. No fear to come near my tent.
As she spoke to me, so did He...
She's told herself these Truths for years, Becky. Everyday. She has spoken my Promises. Morning, noon and night, she has committed herself to knowing My Word. Debbie talks to herself daily.
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. Joshua 1:8
Meditate: Hagah in Hebrew means "to mutter and speak to one's self in a low voice. To murmur."
This is what we are called to do. We are encouraged to meditate and murmur day and night. To speak to ourselves about His goodness. To remind ourselves of His promises. And to be careful to do it.
So people who talk to themselves aren't crazy after all. They are being quite Biblical. {wink}
During my time away from Blogland, I committed myself to being one who talks to myself. I searched through Scriptures, asking the Lord what He wants me murmur. Where do I need empowerment everyday? What passages need to immediately come to mind in the day of battle?
I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find, knock and it will be open to you. Luke 16:9
Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. Luke 10:19
You have been anointed by the Holy One and you have all knowledge. 1 John 1:20
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us to His own glory and excellence. 2 Peter 1:3
For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under the law but under grace. Romans 6:4
You will not fear the terror of the night nor the arrow that flies by day. Because you have made the LORD your dwelling place - the Most High, who is my refuge - no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent. Psalm 91:5, 9-10
Nothing is impossible with God. Luke 1:37
...to name a few.
Just thought I'd share.
So if you find me talking to myself, chances are you'll know what I'm doing ;) I'm not crazy.
Well. Maybe a little bit. Crazy about Jesus, anyway.
Lord, thank you again and again for your WORD! It is absolutely life-giving and delicious. I pray we KNOW IT AND DO IT. Let it be the air we breath. I want to be a WOMAN OF YOUR WORD. Committed and confident. Grow me in this. Grow all of us. Let us be found, today, talking to ourselves. Day and night. Meditating on Truth. In Jesus Name. Amen.
Good stuff! xoxoxo

ReplyDeleteI LOVED this! What a wonderful reminder that it is okay to talk to ourselves and proclaim God's truth over and over again- even if we seem crazy!:)
